AML Requirements on Metaspins Explained

Safety at Metaspins Explained

Learn why Metaspins may request identity or source of funds documents and how this standard process protects players.

Metaspins is licensed and regulated by the Anjouan Offshore Finance Authority (AOFA). Part of the licensing obligations is adhering to performing Anti-Money Laundering (AML) checks on player accounts. These checks form part of the larger standard practices upheld by all regulated online casinos. It is not a reflection on an individual player.

What is AML and Why Does it Apply to Me?

Online casinos can be high-risk targets of money laundering due to the large volume of cash transactions. Regulatory authorities impose strict Anti-Money Laundering (AML) requirements on casinos. This is to prevent them from being used for money laundering, tax evasion, and terrorist financing.

Metaspins is legally required to stay ahead of compliance obligations by verifying who our players are and where their funds come from. That explains why we may ask you to provide identity documents or information regarding your source of funds.

When Might Metaspins Require AML Checks?

AML reviews are triggered automatically - they are not a judgment about you as a player. We may initiate a review if any of the following apply to your account:

  • Deposit is suspiciously high.

  • Our monitoring systems flag down transaction patterns from your account for review (for example, large deposits followed by immediate withdrawals with minimal play).

  • Multiple usage of different payment methods or frequent changes of payment method.

  • Account activity showing a change in your risk profile.

  • A verification or update request for your identity information.

  • Suspicious blockchain activity publicly available on the blockchain or through OSINT sources

What Documents May I Be Asked to Provide?

We may ask for one of the following documents during our AML check:

  • Proof of Identity—a government-issued photo ID such as a passport, national ID card, or driver’s license.

  • Proof of Address—Verifies a customer’s residential location. It can include a bank statement, a utility bill, or a government-issued document confirming your residential address.

  • Source of Funds (SOF)—Verifies the specific origin of the money in a particular transaction deposited at Metaspins. This includes salary, sale of assets, personal savings, and inheritance.

  • Source of Wealth (SOW)—Refers to the origin of a client’s entire accumulated net worth—how they acquired their total fortune. For example, business ownership, employment income, investments, or asset sales.

Not all players will be asked for everything—we'll contact you directly to let you know exactly what’s needed. Also, we may occasionally skip proof of address, but biometric verification is mandatory.

What Happens to My Account During an AML Review?

When your account is under an AML review, we may temporarily restrict deposits or withdrawals until required checks are completed. This is a standard precautionary measure designed to ensure compliance with legal regulations. It is not a judgment on your account.

After we’ve received and verified your documentation to our satisfaction, the restrictions will be lifted as quickly as possible.

We reserve the right to suspend your account until the matter is resolved if we are unable to verify your identity or the source of your funds.

Source of Funds vs Source of Wealth: What’s the Difference?

Source of Funds

Source of Wealth

Source of Funds (SOF) in an AML check refers to identifying and verifying the specific origin of money deposited on Metaspins. Typical evidence includes a salary payment, inheritance, tax returns, asset sale statements, or a gift.

Source of Wealth (SOW) refers to the origin of your accumulated financial position. SOW requires verifying the historical, long-term accumulation of assets via documentation to ensure wealth legitimacy. For example, employment income, investments, bank statements, or employment contracts.

Both cases may require presentation of supporting documentation. Good examples of acceptable documents include payslips, employment contracts, bank statements, or legal documents relating to a sale or inheritance.

What We Do With Your Information

Any documents or information provided as part of the AML review are handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy.  We retain documents securely for a minimum of five years following the closure of your account or the date of your last transaction. This is as required by law.

FAQs

Q: Why is Metaspins asking me for documents?

A: Metaspins is a licensed casino that’s legally required to verify the identity of our players and the origin of their funds. This is a standard practice across all regulated operators and applies to all players who meet certain deposit or activity thresholds.

Q: Will my account be closed if I don’t provide documents?

A: We may restrict or suspend your account if we are unable to complete the required verification. This is until the documents are provided. We will not close your account without first allowing you to complete the review.

Q: How long does an AML review take?

A: Review times vary depending on the complexity of the case. Also, how quickly your documents are submitted. Our team will contact you with updates throughout the process.
